There's Pork Katsu at a Coffee Shop in Downtown Santa Cruz

The team behind one of the best breakfast burritos in Santa Cruz just did something nobody saw coming.

Cat and Cloud Coffee, known for their Swift Street breakfast burrito, dropped a pork katsu bowl at their Abbott Square Market location for First Friday Santa Cruz. And it was awesome.

What Made It Work

The pork was juicy. That part was expected from a team that knows what they are doing.

What stood out was the chili sauce and chili oil combination on top. That is what elevated this from a good bowl to a great one. Heat, depth, and balance all in one bite.

A coffee shop dropping a pork katsu bowl for a one night pop up is exactly the kind of thing that makes the Santa Cruz food scene fun to follow. You never know what is coming next.

We hope to see more of these bowls in the future. Cat and Cloud, if you are reading this, do it again.

Big thanks to @jared_truby for the heads up. We would not have had this for dinner without him.
